Hannukah came a day early this year as Volvo just told us, for serious, that the hopped up Volvo V60 Polestar is definitely coming to America. Volvo wagon. Bright blue. 350 horsepower. Sub 5.0-second 0-60 mph time. I think I just blue myself!
Here is more info on my new favorite car (via Jalopnik)
There have been a lot of great Volvo wagons over the years. From the early Amazons, to the ridiculously quick V70Rs, but my favorite Volvo wagons ever are the early ’80s 240 GTL turbos, preferably in black, two prancing moose stickers on the side. (Full disclosure, my dad owned this exact car (minus the moose stickers) when I was young - turbo whine was an anthem of childhood).
These early ’80s 240s were the original sleeper wagons, packing turbo power and family comfort in one stylish package. 240 turbos from this vintage also still had the square double front headlights and the classic Virgo 5 Spoke wheels, the perfect combo. Truth be told they were not particularly fast, but they felt quick and were a blast to drive. To me they remain the quintessential Swedish car, quirky, well engineered, yet packed with fun.
In a matter of hours on Friday, Typhoon Haiyan completely devastated parts of the central Philippines. It was one of the strongest storms ever recorded. The death toll is estimated up to 10,000 with hundreds of thousands more displaced. The country has declared a “state of calamity.”
